Sometimes we just like to get a whole gang of sewists together to make a cute dress or a sweet sweatshirt. Why not join us next time to expand your skillset?

These two or three session workshops run several times a year. In these class, students will cut and sew a basic garment for themselves from a featured indy pattern. Although most projects take six hours, the number of hours for this class may vary with the pattern selected. Some homework may be required!​​

Class size:

  • 2-4 people

 

Cost:

  • $90 for two sessions

  • The cost includes instruction, the use of class machines*, tools, thread and other supplies. (*You may also bring your own machine to use if this is better for you.)

  • Students supply their own fabric (see “Materials required” below)

Number of classes:

  • 2 sessions of 2.5-3 hours each, usually 2 Saturdays in a row

  • or a sometimes we will run a full 6-hour Saturday

​

Prerequisite:

  • Students must be a confident beginner. A Kickstarter class is recommended but an equivalent skill level will be accepted.

 

Workshops to watch for:​

  • Intro to Pants - Sew a pair of pants that actually fit the way you want them to!

  • Intro to Jeans - Sew a comfy pair of jeans in just a couple of days

  • Fashion a Favourite - Draft a pattern from a favourite garment and make a muslin (first draft) version
     

Skills covered may include:​

  • understanding pattern requirements

  • taking measurements

  • selecting size

  • basic pattern alterations

  • tissue fitting

  • fabric selection and preparation

  • reading pattern instructions

  • fitting

  • hemming and finishing

 

Materials required:

  • Students usually provide their own fabric. When you register will let you know what type of fabric is appropriate, how much you need, and how to prepare it before class begins.

  • Some projects that require special fabrics or materials will include the materials in your fees.

 

Location:

  • Most of our classes are held in The Sewing School studio located in the south end near the Memorial Centre but sometimes for workshops we move to a larger space like the Peterborough Public Library​
